I paid out of pocket for my degree, why can't they?

If you want competent, educated public servants you either pay them as much as private sector or you forgive student loans. Guess which is cheaper for taxpayers.

Just disgraceful. We forgive those debts so people will not be further deterred from low paying jobs with high societal value! They already take these hard government jobs with long hours and low pay for loan forgiveness. That is the deal, a fair deal. Stop breaking our DEALS!

I'd like to see this extended to healthcare providers. As a social worker my entire career is about helping others & saving lives. Not getting rich by any means, but I'd like to keep paying current bills.

I paid for mine, used scholarships and my GI Bill, not hard to pay for. If you take out a loan then step up and pay your debt.

You used a GI Bill. This was basically the same thing. They took low paying government jobs in exchange for essentially a GI Bill. They have all put in 10 years of service. They have all made at least 10 years of payments on their loans.

They took out the debt of their own free will. Why should I bail them out?
