We passed a bill 3 weeks ago that kept the government open, without funding for Trump’s wall. The Democratic House followed suit and passed a bill that would do the same. A simple way to see the political dynamics here. Imagine Trump keeps the shutdown going till November 2020. Would Republicans be optimistic about that election? No, they'd be horrified. Would Democrats be optimistic about that election? That's where the leverage is.

Why are we allowing McConnell to give 50% control of Congress to the Executive branch, bypassing constitutional checks and balances? The ability to override a veto allows Congress to discuss/amend/pass legislation, their job, without the consent of the Pres! Pls Fix the process!

We don't need a deal. We need the Senate to do their jobs and vote yeah or nay on the House spending bills and if the President vetos them; then vote to over-ride or not over-ride the veto. That's how our government is supposed to work.
