A win would be if people on the left derided cancel culture like people on the right do. Where are the @allahpundit types writing pieces about not using old tweets to get people fired?

You'll like this one: Haverford Township, PA, closed down a volunteer fire station because one of the firemen started, but did not complete, application process to join Proud Boys. http://www.journal14.com/2019/09/05/burnin-down-the-house/ … He was willing to resign, but other foremen refused to accept it.

Township Deputy Police Chief investigated, said that there was no evidence he'd broken the law, and he wasn't accused of refusing to fight fires or mistreating anyone.

The proper response to Breitbart’s piece, if there was nothing wrong with Dean Riley’s old tweets, was to not fire him. Ignore the article, or better yet respond that people say things on the spur of the moment that don’t necessarily reflect what they now are as people.

And after that, you wait a few days, and it goes away.

That would be an administrator's solution to controversial speech. We get criticized for being hostile to conservative speech, so we'll be hostile to liberal speech as well! Just letting a marketplace of ideas thrive probably never crossed their minds.

It's a culture war. How would WW2 have proceeded if the US had refused to resort to military action following the Japanese attack on Hawaii?
