Remember, this is the highest to average ratio, which includes all the executive salaries. Highest to lowest is the real crime.

George Romney, Mitt's dad, as head of American motors in the '60's, earned equivalent of about $2 million in today's dollars and felt it was wrong for any executive to make more, fearing that the "temptations of success" would distract them from more important things. 1/

The elder Romney actually refused raises he was offered that would take him above that level. The salary of the average automobile CEO (top of the list) at the time was about 20x that of the average worker. end/

The guy I know, who works in Economics, said that if it keeps going this way it will cause something to explode, fig speaking. I didn't understand it well enough to repeat it to perfection. He worked on Wall street in the 80s. He talks about October, 1987 too.

Great coverage today! At the Predistribution Initiative, we’re also exploring comp ratios btwn avg workers + company investors. In growth private equity, workers help create a lot of value + also take risk, so should share in profits. Would love to discuss in 2020!

Workers don't "help" create a lot of the value. They are the ones who create the value. Hence their pay being called "earned income". As for investor risk, that's been shunted to the public. "The Greenspan Put", Import/Export Bank, ISDS, etc.

Are you only including US based workers? "free" trade bilks their offshore workers also. Haitian lady said her Disney pay is $.28 a day.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_OXhtgHBxk …
