Dear planners, Welcome to . Let me apologize in advance for the lack of ample free parking. But now that we've removed all our minimum parking regulations, we hope you will enjoy the flowers instead.

That is, we're starting to see full-cost parking and homes that are cheaper than they otherwise would be if we still had minimum parking laws in place. But since 's exclusionary zoning laws make it illegal to build apartments in most of the city, rents are still too damn high.

What a $100K price for a parking spot indicates: suffered 60 years of social engineering due to minimum parking laws, which hid the cost of parking in the cost of other goods, like housing. We dumped those laws, so now we're getting full-cost parking & cheaper homes.

The $100K list price for that parking space in wouldn’t cover the cost of a spot in this proposed taxpayer-funded garage. PA gives away public parking for free. This helps explain Palo Alto has no homeless cars, but many homeless people.

To Americans, there is nothing quite as shocking as seeing a parking space for sale at a price that would cover the cost of building it.

Fewer would live like this: Arthur "resorted to what he describes as his best option: parking his 2001 Toyota Corolla on the top floor of a campus garage, ...and sleeping under the glare of the 24-hour lights, a knife nearby for protection."

Originally proposed: 176 apartments with 46 parking spaces. Now proposed: 303 small units with shared kitchen/living space, 0 parking spaces. If we allowed homes like these on all residentially-zoned land, we'd have lower rents & fewer homeless students.

When I left , after 15 years helping build it, I thought, “Are we leaving this place in good hands?” Yup. Great hire!

In the 60s, there was nothing quite like lunch in the park at the foot of Market, with ample parking nearby. In those days before the Clean Air Act, the fumes of cars mingled with the scent of brake dust, and the cacophony of air brakes, horns, and trucks rumbling overhead.

Completion of the double-decker freeway and parking improvements made it easier -- temporarily -- to drive to Market & Embarcadero. There just wasn't much reason for anyone to want to go there.

Remember Market Street in the “good old days”? Remember parking in the cold, dingy parking stalls at the foot of Market, beneath the hulking shadows of a double-decker freeway? If you long for those days, maybe you've forgotten what it was really like.

It’s true that the 58 parking spaces that will go with these 58 proposed homes are for bicycles. That may not be your cup of tea, but plenty of us aren’t interested in paying the extra $300-$500 a month in rent required to cover the cost of an automobile parking space.

When cities do 3 things, it’s often feasible to turn a 16-space parking lot into 58 homes, with private bathrooms, kitchens & 1 parking space per home: 1. Remove minimum automobile parking laws. 2 Allow an 85’ tall building. 3 Remove density regulations.

Here’s ’s Market Street in the “good old days”. If you long to return to those days, perhaps you’ve forgotten what it was really like? Most of us are ready for a new day on Market. Thanks to for making it happen!

When rich homeowners work to block new homes, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are racist. Here in , some block new homes because building them creates “noise" and "construction dust”. opponents aren't all racist. Some are just selfish.

Hey , does your strategy of requiring ample parking – and no useful alternatives – at our beaches still look like a sustainable coastal access strategy to you? seems like a dead end to me.
