If every incel somehow got a girlfriend, the net violence in the world would only go up. Because guys who think like this are violent to their girlfriends. It's not their singleness that's dangerous; it's the way they think about women.

I think there are many mentally ill or socially challenged people for whom it is useful to acknowledge some basic principles with or about. One is that they need to be attteactive and explicitly ask out people appropriately, which is hard.
-
But explicitly asking questions is key to affirmative consent. Also: many people’s awkwardness or status (esp. financial class, trans, etc) can interfere with ability to form relationships. Relevant to not just dudes but disadvantaged PoC, single moms. Celibacy snowballs.

I think these are all discussions we need to have. I also think virgins over 30 often need support/help of varying kinds. There is a risk of scorn or stigma. But these online jerks hijack every label or term, make it about themselves, and make the needed dialogues difficult.
-
And the sad thing is that by enhancing the stigma of their conditions, these people isolate others similar to themselves and make it easier to radicalize them. Same principle as why a president being anti-Muslim helps ISIS Recruit.
-
Yes. Social isolation & lack of bonds are the biggest risk factor for joining every type of fringe group, whether cults, skinheads, ISIS, MRAs, or any other. That's why I was so disappointed when our domestic radicalization intervention group under DOJ was dismantled last year.
