1. I'm seeing what I believe to be sincere apologies from some journalists and verified media persons regarding their lack of professionalism in rushing to judgement re the #CovingtonCatholic situation.
2. These apologies are welcome and necessary, but they don't address the damage that cannot be undone which was inflicted upon young people who are about to embark on adulthood - applying to colleges, looking for employment, etc.
3. These young people will forever have these smears follow them through their life every time they proffer their resume with the word "Covington" on it. It will also affect anyone who ever has or ever will attend that school. The damage is incalculable.
4. And yet those who perpetrated this destruction, no matter how unintended, are still at their jobs, with nary a consequence for their reckless behavior.
5. It seems to me that an apology without some kind of accompanying action which speaks to the seriousness of their transgression - a suspension from work, some loss of pay - renders any apology empty.
6. Some kind of compensatory action would go a long way in signaling their recognition of the seriousness of their transgression and help to restore what's left of the public's very fragile trust in their reputations as trustworthy journalists.
I doubt there will be any consequences for those in the media who rushed to judgement. They did what they were supposed to do: not report facts, but gain readers/viewers which equals money.
Media will gloss over this, and applaud themselves for being self-reflective later.
Someone on here said earlier that will never happen because they don’t really face any consequences. Sadly that’s true. My faith in the press has hit a new low solely based on their behavior and not because of anyone else saying it.
This was a bully’s trifecta on the part of the press: A baby deer shot in one leg and running at the back of the pack - aka white/prolife/male. They’re probably hoping this will send a message to the March for Life as a whole for having the temerity to have a presence in D.C.
The worst part is the media chooses to continue the feud with Trump. No one mentions the poverty, or high suicide rates on reservations. They use Natives and the kids as political pawns. Only because the kids had MAGA hats on, because it fits the storyline
What's depressing for me as well, some of the actors I follow here are still demeaning these kids even when confronted with loads of video. I'm ok with people having opposing political views from my own, I just cannot understand the refusal to see truth from opposing side.
Oh wow look at all the boys jumping, singing & laughing, so offensive.......said no sane person EVER! Seriously, nvr go around kids if them being goofy is offensive. After all, you might need a safe place from it. SMH at your level of idiocy! #getalife
