3/ If we assume that this rapid spread runs through all of China, maybe 25% of Chinese exposed, 14% infected, that's 49 million infected. In US hopefully we can shrink that transmission rate down to just a few millions infected? But it's spreading fast in the beginning.

2/ The German cluster (6 people infected at a conference room meeting) shows us that this disease transmits with no intimate contact. And very, very quickly. So this 14% thing is pretty believable in that light.

If this French plane is representative of the general Wuhan population (and why not?) then 36/254 = 14% of Wuhan is infected. That's 7 million people infected in Wuhan alone. And growing exponentially. Does that seem right?

It's important to understand that in 2 months, this could be US cities. If we don't work proactively NOW to hold it back. We must delay, delay, delay the progression of this disease in every way possible to give our researchers time to find cures.

in the US and Europe, "containment" is CRUCIAL. Delay, delay, delay. The longer we hold back spread of virus, the more time to get a vaccine before the HUGE growth happens. Being fatalistic and saying "oh well, whatever happens happens" is worst possible response.

NYT and WSJ finally admitting is a pandemic. Why is the media moving so damned slow on this? The way to prevent a pandemic is *not* to plod along slowly. Officials and press need to move their asses

For those of you still worried that this is all overblown. 1. I hope you are right. 2. China has implemented the largest quarantine in the history of the planet for some reason. Most major cities are shut. They have the data.

Was only in Wuhan airport for an hour, then in plane with other people. With the story of German transmission in a business meeting, confirms that this spreads REALLY quickly and easily.

Thanks Robert. Can amplify this issue so more can know? Folks like read your writing CDC Clinical Criteria also has huge gaps (e.g. asymptomatic not included, e.g travel outside China not included). Someone with no fever (Tylenol) & no travel wouldn't get tested

The fact that it takes the five to seven days to generate results from a test they’ve insisted on centralizing - in a fast, asymptomatic transmission regime - is very disturbing There should be fastPCR at every hospital and every port of entry in the US

I do believe the first contact of the German index patient felt sick for just 1 day and stayed home from work but recovered fine at home the following day or 2. I’m guessing the wide range of severity has more to do with ones immune response than the virus itself.
