    I joined all living former governors in a bipartisan effort to defeat two amendments because it was the right thing to do. The right thing to do now is to immediately override Gov. Cooper's veto.

    Trooper Kevin Conner represented the best of North Carolina. I had the privilege of meeting Trooper Conner and his beautiful family during the Christmas season at the executive mansion. Ann and I offer our deepest condolences to his family during this extremely difficult time.

    My heart goes out to Cindy and the entire McCain family. It was an honor to get to know John McCain in 2008 when he was running for president and I was running for governor. I greatly admire his military and public service to our country.

    My advice to legislators....If any of you want to take on the responsibilities of the governor, then have the courage to run for governor, and win. Earn it. Do not hijack these duties through the two deceitful and misleading amendments that attempt to fool our great citizens.

    Lawmakers who want the governor’s powers should have “the courage” to run for governor, says: “Earn it. Don’t hijack our constitution.”

    Instead of using the power of his office to force action, Governor Cooper is treating the pain of hurricane victims as an afterthought. North Carolina is better than this.

    Eastern NC residents are still waiting for help recovering from Hurricane Matthew as more than $400 million in federal funds still sits un-used.... & still refuse to answer questions about delays on-camera

    Our national guard has been fighting to stop drugs and human trafficking from coming across our borders, and Governor Cooper's shameful act makes N.C. less secure. Our national guards' mission has had nothing to do with the politics being debated in Washington. Shame!

    Shame on for using our N.C. national guard troops as political pawns. Our troops have helped secure the border for many years and Cooper's disgraceful action will make us less safe.
