Hi Pat, according to the Handbook of Western Palearctic birds, it's an aggressive behaviour, usually from a male defending a territory. If there's so many birds in the garden, this may be why!

Fascinating behaviour Pat, I've never seen it before myself! I'd say there's one of 2 possible reasons for it. Either aggressive displaying to another male, or courtship of a female. Blackbirds are very territorial, there's going to be friction with Spring around the corner.

Fanning tail and dragging it on the ground with head down. Anyone know if it’s a courtship dance please ?? I’ve had 6 Blackbirds in the garden at once for a few days now (phone vid thro’ window)
