It was about time to post a video on YouTube, even if it's just audio.

Stepping outside your comfort zone can be stressful. However, there is a difference between that and constantly stressing yourself out. Knowing the difference can save you from potential burnout.

It's good to get the perspectives of all kinds of language learners. There are many wonderful people on this list, some of which I've had the pleasure of talking to. Also, don't forget to follow because he's also an amazing language account 🙂

The number of times I've seen voilà spelled as viola in English... I genuinely wonder if we have accepted viola as another way to spell voilà, or if it continues to be just the instrument and it's just a common misspelling.

Do you pick a word for the year? I typically don't, but during the latter half of 2019, two words came to me: focus and freedom. As mentioned in another recent tweet, I've been reflecting on letting go. Perhaps that will be one of my themes for this year.

Happy New Year! May we continue to learn and grow in all areas of life throughout 2020.

  8. As we leave 2019 behind and move into a new year, I think of other things that I could benefit from leaving behind. What are some things you would like to let go of in 2020, regarding your language learning journey? Any negative thoughts, beliefs, or expectations? A language?

  9. Taking some time to reflect is good, no matter what time of the year. As we near the end of this year, look back on the progress you made, no matter how much or how little you felt you made. (A little progress is still progress!) What were some of your language wins in 2019?

  10. I learned that Now That's What I Call Music! was released in several countries. Time to go find some hits in other languages!

  11. What have you found to be more disruptive to your language journey: your own expectations or the expectations you think others have of you?

  12. Merry Christmas to all! Whether you've been listening to Christmas songs since Thanksgiving or are just starting, I wanted to share a playlist of Christmas songs in different languages that you can listen to. Tweet more at me to add to the list and enjoy!

  13. We can all learn from each other's language journeys. What is the best advice you've ever received when it comes to learning languages?

  14. I like to promote languages at work through sharing a Spanish word of the day, as well as giving out cards in other languages. 😊 Side note: I've found a few language items at Ollie's Bargain Outlet, including the cards, a Pimsleur course, and a Japanese for beginners book.

  15. Although teachers and language exchange partners may be part of our journey, we can't expect them to be solely responsible for our improvement. Yes, they are there to help, but sometimes they'll let us down. If we want to improve, it is our responsibility to not give up.

  16. The last birthday of the season is my sister's. Many people think she's either my friend or my older sister, but she's actually my younger sister. She's really funny, creative, and a hard worker. She's always had a way of making me laugh. Today she turns 21!

  17. Have you made time for studying languages during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season? Will you be using any of your target languages at any holiday gatherings or using them if you're traveling during that time?

  18. I don't have the English language all figured out. I'm a native speaker and I still have to ask people and look up if certain words are hyphenated or written as one word or two. While being like a native speaker is a noble goal, just know that we aren't perfect either.

  19. Although I don't like cold weather, I love November and December because they're one big celebration of multiple birthdays in my family and holidays. Today we celebrate my mom's birthday. She has been a huge part of my language learning journey and I am so grateful for her.

  20. I listen to instrumental music when I study or work in my languages. When I was in college and grad school, it would be epic music to pump me up, kind of like during a workout. Now that I'm working, I listen to soft music to keep myself calm. What music do you listen to?
