ICYMI: after Musk started banning journalists without legitimate reason, the news organizations that employ them had an opportunity to take a stand for freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
They didn't. Why?
One one of the big takeaways I hope other reporters take from my piece: Going forward, if you cover Patrick Byrne & you're not mentioning his very extensive QAnon ties, then you're not giving your audience the full context on Byrne & his election denial activities.
NEW from me:
An extensive review of how the election denial movement — & Trump — became increasingly intertwined with QAnon during 2022.

Dotdash Meredith — the publisher that houses brands such as People, Better Homes & Gardens, InStyle, Travel + Leisure, and others — will lay off 7% of its staff, which translates to 274 employees. https://cnn.com/2023/01/26/media/dotdash-meredith-layoffs/index.html…
BREAKING: Buzzfeed announces it will increase the use of ChatGPT to create content after cutting 12% of its workforce last month.
Its stock has jumped up a staggering 146%.
We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing “the” labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.
Seriously, just outright say that you're letting him back on and you're not planning to ever hold him to the same standards other users are held to. It'd be more honest and then you won't have people going, "He broke the rules!!!" and whatnot.
Calling it now: Trump will post something that absolutely violates these new rules within his first week back on the platform and Facebook/Meta/whatever will do absolutely nothing about it. I don't know why they even bother pretending.
In a study of Trump’s 6,000+ posts before he was suspended, we found that Trump used his Facebook page to attack others and spread misinformation. Such posts made up roughly 24% of his total posts and roughly 36% of all his interactions.
Leaving classified briefing, a frustrated Sen. Tom Cotton said he would slow down “all nominees” to inflict “pain” on the administration over its “stonewalling” the Senate Intelligence Committee from seeing all the records seized from Trump, Pence and Biden properties.
Do... they not realize that the A&W thing was a joke about the M&M's thing? Or are they just pretending that it wasn't for the sake of pushing their "omg, cancel culture! wokeness!" nonsense? No one was calling on A&W to change their mascot. I truly hate how stupid everything is.
Now that Twitter is censoring users on behalf of the Modi government in India, I'm reupping this October prediction that Musk's international entanglements would be the Achilles heel of Twitter.
Twitter should release all communications with governments regarding censorship.
I think @elonmusk has made a huge mistake, making himself the global face of content moderation at a critical moment of struggle with governments, while maintaining massive personal exposure to challenging countries.
"They're saying, 'Coffin Flop's not a show. It's just hours and hours of footage of real people falling out of coffins at funerals. There's no explanation. Just body after body busting out of shit wood and hitting pavement.' They're saying 'It's impossible that many de
De La Cruz: DirecTV, one of my district's largest satellite providers, has threatened to remove newsmax.. This appears to be another victory in the woke left’s efforts to cancel conservatives and limit free speech
Two major stories about life in Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Florida broke this week, but you’ve probably only heard about the one that he desperately wants you to know about.
I wrote about Pamela Paul and the most perilous pronoun of all: the first-person plural https://newyorker.com/culture/persons-of-interest/the-rules-according-to-pamela-paul…
“The Fifth Amendment is no mere formality,” @fmanjoo writes. “Anytime you’re asked to talk to the police about an incident you are involved in, there are just four words you need to say: ‘I want a lawyer.’” https://nyti.ms/3XX4A3C
I wonder why Matt Taibbi didn't do an entire Twitter Files thread about this attempt by a government official to interfere with the speech decisions of a private company.
McCarthy had his general counsel "spend hours" with senior executives at Twitter trying to get Marjorie Taylor Greene back on the platform after she was banned for violating misinformation policies. Fox News is MAD that "woke" Xbox is changing its power saving mode
Earhardt: "Xbox has also announced that they're going woke because of climate change"
Failla: "They're trying to recruit your kids into climate politics at an earlier age"
E: "They're going after the kids"
WaPo gutting launcher and the NYT doing "video games: more than just for kids?" on the same day, when a video game adaptation is one of the most high profile prestige dramas on TV atm, feels like a stupidly out-of-touch view of games' importance to mainstream culture reporting
A person created an obvious parody twitter account calling themselves 'Trans Cultural Mindful Alliance' (there's your first clue), and tweeted that trans people hate the song 'Natural Woman' by Aretha Franklin, and the press diligently 'reported' it as what trans people think. 1/
"People have questions about this stuff!"
Absolutely. And that's why it's important to make sure every single article you put out on the topic doesn't come with a laundry list of red flags when it comes to the framing, the quoted sources, etc.
