Police are throwing tenants onto the streets during . While mayor John Tory claims police do not take sides in disputes between tenants and landlords, working class people know the truth: police have always been hired guns for landlords.

Our neighborhoods will be forever changed by multiple factors, including evictions. Don't believe the narrative of "They deserve it", or "It's not me". One day it may be.

Starlight tenants from several different buildings are organizing a collective response to their landlord. You can support them tomorrow by calling Starlight's management and telling them to accept tenants demands, and deal with tenants collectively.

Today tenants came together to distribute food to their neighbours as part of a tenant-run food bank at 105 West Lodge. 1 out of 5 tenants at the West Lodge towers are now at risk of eviction. We won't let neighbours go hungry or be removed from their homes.

When working class people access the source of power most readily available to us, that being our own self-organization, we defend our homes and improve our lives.

UPDATE: Landlord has withdrawn the N13 notices against tenants at 14 Wadsworth! The tenants fought to stay in their homes and with support from their neighbours and tenants across the city, they were successful. Thanks to everyone who supported and participated in actions!

“But, diversity of tactics!” - not very diverse if most people or groups just engage in charity and service delivery. It is the norm, and unimaginative.

Mayor : I am powerless over evictions, my lawyers say so. City Solicitor: “Legal advice is always more nuanced then yes or no and the legal issues are — particularly in this complex situation we currently find ourselves in — without precedence.”

Lockdown or no lockdown, the conditions of working class life will continue to worsen under COVID. Lockdown or no lockdown, improving our conditions requires building power through independent organization. Lockdown or no lockdown, we have to take the initiative to build it.

The eviction hearings coming up this month and next include many cases landlords filed against tenants in April, May, and June. Both and said landlords would be compassionate with tenants during the pandemic. What a sick joke.

Tamer Abaza’s company Smart Living is boarding up doors and windows, spray painting Xs on doors, tenants are not receiving mail and the heat isn’t on. Tamer, pay attention: TENANTS ARE NOT MOVING. NEGOTIATE NOW.

And now landlords are exploiting the crisis to evict tenants who lost their jobs in order to do just that.

Just looked at this more closely. Looks like you have to refer SIX tenants to make the full $500. LMAO how is a company this cheap? Oh wait, just remembered that the owner of Ranee is also the owner of an LTC that was found to be restricting PPE to staff:

remember - every time someone is evicted in Toronto - the unit they vacate, the rent goes up. every eviction, we lose that affordable unit. and is a BATTLE for Toronto. COVID will make this city more unaffordable if we don't fight NOW.

Another lie was saying no one would be evicted from their home for choosing to put food on the table over paying rent. Hundreds of tenants have been evicted since August. Thousands more are scheduled to be evicted via online hearing.

Parkdale ppl, RT please! We are launching West Lodge Food Bank this weekend and seeking some items. Nearly 1/4 of our building is behind on rent and many more choose to pay rent over food. Requests will be on-going! All info in the pic below. text:
