damn...is there division in BlackTechTwitter too? Can we all just love and appreciate all roads to BTT?
-
-
-
There is no division. This a statement and its has to do with the industry as a whole.
-
oh, well who cares what the rest of them thinks? They WILL NEVER be totally receptive of large numbers of us no matter what pathway we march down. Mirrors general society, really.
-
I’m just defending self taught devs and letting people who want to get into tech know that there are other routes other than school. That’s all I’m doing. People get mad when I offer options which is hilarious

Devs shit talking devs doesn't help anyone. There is more than one path to success.
-
Some people don’t understand that

Dear self-taught dev, no one is truly self-taught, people helped you out along the way. Get over yourself. Yrs truly: 1xr

Hahaha I’m sure there’s some fundamentals y’all are missing out on, but who has ever shit on self taught devs? I applaud them
-
We are but we can always learn them through reading and research. You’d be surprised how many people shit on us and consider us taking “the easy way out”

Sure, u can figure out how to code, and some lite algorithm sequences, etc on your own. But it does begin to show when you have to communicate cross engineering disciplines (like an EE and SE talking down to the bit level). Nothing against self taught, but the degree is worth it
-
Good thing I know how to pick up a book.
-
Good thing I know how to communicate with the people I work with.
-
Sure, communication is key. But if you're struggling on the job with basics like mentioned above, your days would be numbered. That's like on day 1 if you don't know Boolean math, I would look at you crazy.
-
There is nothing that someone without a CS degree cannot learn versus someone who does have a degree. That’s what you don’t seem to understand.
-
Exactly. I may not have a CS degree (I didn’t even finish highschool) but I do have several granted patents in the USA & abroad, an 8 yr old software company, & the ability to learn what I need to learn. I don’t expect my team to have degrees. They just need to love learning.
-
Thats cool, but you're like one in a million that has done such. So congrats on the American Dream, but it doesn't work for all the same way
-
I’m Canadian. And the fact that things don’t work the same way for everyone is the best argument against for profit education institutions you could ever find.
