there might be something to the "big a accelerationism, little a accelerationism" distinction. where did the taxonomy "left accelerationism" or "right accelerationism" even come from?

Isn't "left acc" is progress? As far as I can put together what "left acc" would even be it seems like it's just everything that's been champions by society since either the enlightenment or Renaissance.

Accelerating capital towards its supposed transition to communism

Yeah, that's the m-l and nl party line, and take this with a grain of salt, but that's just a different end result but a nearly identical praxis to what economic and political leaders were doing anyway, even before Marx.

Not sure Land ever coined the term. In the 'Concept of Acceleration' lectures, he discusses l/acc (Srnicek and Williams) and then says that r/acc comes as a reflexive term, but says it doesn't mean anything, that there is no r/acc political project.
-
He does then coin the term 'unconditional acceleration', acceleration without political conditions attached to it. Since, the u/acc term has expanded beyond his own positions.

This is basically correct. I might be wrong but afaik the term Left Accelerationism was either coined by or came about to describe Williams and Srnicek's manifesto, and Right was a reaction to that.
