Whenever I lock my bike up I ask whether it's worth putting a cord through the wheels or just putting the D-lock on the frame and then think of the guy in Zero Dark Thirty who says 'procedures only work if you do them every time!' That guy is in my head
Does that mean putting a D-lock around the wheel, frame and whatever you're locking it to? The lock I use is a strong one but not big enough to fit around more than the frame usually

Seems like anything less is just theater.

Usually I lock the frame to a rack or whatever with the D-lock and thread a cord through the wheels that is hooked on by the D-lock
-
If you d-lock only the rear wheel, and do it through the rear triangle, the frame is also secure (wheel can't fit through) Sheldon method
