I gather this is the mash-up of this with the sad fact that in the UK you can get away with ideas that would otherwise be unacceptable as long as you're polite and well spoken, and smile.

Why not have a free exchange of ideas though, do we need to police what people say and think?

I'm not talking about policing. I'm talking about the lamentable tendency to confusing form with content. If you say the same things as JRM with a different haircut and tattoos, you "ideas" aren't as acceptable.

Things have shifted a very long way in this regard though, not very long ago you still needed a 'bbc accent' to get on the tv
