Nations ARE "made up"... some (Italy, Iraq) far more than others (England, Japan). Strange the nuance-obsessed NYT doesn't mention this.

Nuance-obsessed NYT mentions that, prior to modern nation-state, ppl drew Identity from other (more organic) things. Correct! Yet when looking for alternative to (big s-s-scary) Nationalism, does not propose the organic things, but New Kind of Nat'l Identity(tm). Odd.

Note the Freudian Slip of NYT: "It only took a century for Nat'l Identity to culminate in WW2". No. You dorks: It culminated in WW1, of which WW2 was mere postlude. But that bit of nuance doesn't fit neatly in the NYT Script.

Nuance-obsessed NYT mentions (correctly) the rise of nationalism corresponding to rise of democratic feeling (not king, not church, but We The People). Yet is strangely unconcerned with nearness of the ostensible demon to other sacred relics of The Enlightenment. Weird.

Let us cut the chase: NYT wants a world where identity is infinitely malleable--a whig evolutionary emanation upon a whig penumbra of uniformly whiggish Eternal Anglo culture.

This why nuance-obsessed NYT doesn't consider proposing pre-nationalist forms of identity. For all the s-s-scariness of Nationalism, what came before was EVEN S-S-SCARIER. Do that, and your scrapping the Entire Enlightenment. And that is ExACTly what
#NRx proposes we do.1 reply 2 retweets 13 likesShow this thread -
A side note to the above. NYT proposes infinitely malleable identity (radical individualism) as a solution to excesses of liberalism (which Nat'lism actually is). But this is a world ONLY Anglos and global elites want. It can therefore only be imposed by draconian Imperialism.

#NRx stands for an older, kinder sort of Empire, bound by mutual interests and overwhelming (and therefore rarely necessary) force; and not one in which Massachusetts ideologically butt-rapes every other culture on the face of the bloody earth.2 replies 2 retweets 16 likesShow this thread -

That is not what Moldbug advocated though? Patchwork would be a complete rejection of empire

Moldbug is coming around. Patchwork was not advocacy, bit thought experiment. One which bracketed out the problem of how keep patches feom eating other patches. A problem solved (AFAICT) ONLY by Empire.

If the patchwork has to become an empire that seems to me to negate the whole point. Unless patchwork is just a temporary vehicle towards better empires

Patchwork can only exist within Empire. I don't see how better to characterize the Habsburg or HRE but as patchworks.
