War *on* drugs, rather than against drugs

Ernst Junger was on the front in WW1, and went on to be one of the first people to try LSD, as I recall (he was friends with the guy who first synthesized it). His later work combines themes of war, or ex soldiers adjusting to post war, with a sort of psychedelic feel.

I haven’t read any Junger but have been interested in doing so, any obvious starting points you’d recommend?

The Glass Bees is easy to get and can be read in one sitting. There's a reprint of Eumeswil which I think is still available, and it's widely considered one of his best. I'd say start there, and seek out more if it stokes your interest.

My personal fave is The Adventurous Heart. A collection of shorter pieces. You can get an idea of what it is like from the beginning of that Albert Hoffman account I linked to. Seems like it was one of his faves, as well.

I've also had conversations with this publisher Dan Ghetu (Ex Occidente/Mount Abraxas), who knows his shit with European lit, and I see to recall him saying it was one of his favorite books. Maybe his all-time favorite book. So, lots of love for that one. :)
