Also had a lot of that at one point (though with normal vision) -- assumed it was micro-strokes.

Think it might have been sleep paralysis, Nick. Not sure if you've read Matt Cardin, but you might enjoy his stories. He had intense SP episodes that influenced his fiction. Recommended if you like Ligotti.
