Right right. A Telos, but not for the human. The Universe may very well be teeming with meaning, but humans are just a stepping stone towards the emergence of it.

If I recall correctly, Vonnegut riffed on this theme somewhere - purpose of humanity was to develop antibiotics and hence toughen up bacteria for interstellar survival.
