The development of humanism arguably owesd much of its origin to the Christian belief that God could take human form. Rather than contesting whether that could be true I don't see how the incarnation could alter the status of humanity as a whole, rather than being...

the concept of interest implies division of finite time and attention, which makes no sense in this case. if sin offends divine glory and God inclines to perfect his glory then confession follows from self-preservation (imperfect contrition) and ultimately love of that glory
-
True yes, but I don't accept the concept of sin in the first place, humans just are what they are, they are only 'sinful' in comparison to an imagined ideal. Of course improving action/character is valuable but confession and self-judgement are seen........
-
in Christianity as having an end in themself, not merely being a tool, and as a tool it's not very good, people spend their whole lives confessing the same things
-
they're not intended as ends in themselves though, the end is to stop you from going to hell and, hopefully, achieve sth better ("I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee") it's really on the penitent to make anything of it
-
as far as sin goes, if you're handed down an ideal from above then it certainly makes sense as a shortfall from that ideal, I don't think there's anything internally inconsistent in it

This opinion of yours is divorced from the subject at hand. Hamartia is an objective statement.
-
please expand on this, not sure I get the relevance of what you're saying
-
point of relevance: You have no idea what youre talking about on the subject of sin.
-
Explain your objection, or I have to assume you don't know what you're talking about either
-
primarily I offer sourcing on the concept prior to any argument since your edification is more important than any disagreement we may have A. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/14004b.htm … B. http://biblehub.com/greek/266.htm
-
Secondarily its clear that you dont understand that historically error (missing the mark) and evil were both understood outside of revelation or the jewish and christian traditions because it is easily intuited and perceived in reality itself
-
I dont dispute your ability to disagree on the nature of The Fall or the explicit rationale of the Crucifixion & Resurrection but the detailing of living as the Battle between Good and Evil as the central struggle of Humanity and our Salvation is the Center of Christianity
-
God bestowing of Life and care for our Acts in existence and the state of your Being is what the entire thing is about and it cant just be handwaved away. I could pinpoint your error more if you elaborate but its clear youre unaware of even the basics on the subject.
