its true. films were terrible pre-feminist critique. all "weekend on the town" style pan-american ingrid bergman snorefests. marjorie rosen's first book was 1973, the year we got the first good film (the exorcist). coincidence? its called an arms race you knuckleheadshttps://twitter.com/GoodBoyMachine/status/1006190269958631426 …

What if I told you Jonathan McIntosh and Anita Sarkeesian were right all along? What if I told you they wanted to add depth and narrative to your games instead of having them play out the same tired tropes? pic.twitter.com/cHgD4ayjxI

The exorcist was the first good film in 73?? The Godfather came out in 72 aside from every other counterexample

ill concede that the ideas were percolating around 1969, but the first godfather was notable mostly for how it revitalized the image of italian americans from anarchist terrorists to honorable criminals. the civil rights movement of course provoked a similar arms race

But more generally, are you really dismissing all movies pre-1969? That is a very extreme position

certainly not for important advancements in the "language" of cinema. eisenstein & co provided valuable technologies, which never really saw true application until orson welles' 1958 masterpiece "touch of evil", notable for being the first film to have an on screen car explosion
