Insofar as IQ is processing power, it wouldn’t surprise me if plenty of ancients had comparable to modern geniuses. Insofar as IQ is abstract reasoning, it would surprise me if they did. Their world was simply less populated by abstractions than ours is.

I had read more books by age 12 than existed AT ALL in Plato’s life. I doubt it made me smarter, but it certainly shaped my mind.
