Richard Feynman found trigonometry notation to be ambiguous and confusing.
"If I had sin f, it looked like s×i×n×f"
So he decided to create his own notation. See below.

They aren't always written with the parentheses though
There's a special place in hell for people who promulgate lazy syntax - particularly academics. 
Yeah, as I understand, Feynman tried to copy "square root" notation. For pupils sinx is quite awkward — they always tend to understand it as sin*x. But they should accustom to this fiction style notation. Maybe sqrt(x) is better start?)
