I totally can understand. And it's tough to be in the position you're in. Personally, I think two important things: ...
1) Know who you're dealing with and where pitfalls / challenges / perceptions are 2) know what you want to say and own that.
I think a lot of people who have a bad experience with the press have a breakdown with one of those things.
Although there's also a point when there's just nothing to gain, which is a strategic conclusion you may also land at.
