Fortunately, it turns out that we *are* still around, and have the time to pay down the technical debt we knowingly accrued earlier. All that to say: you can now start calls in Tuple without a screen share. We hope you like it :)

This was a great example of a tradeoff we made early in development to go faster at the cost of decreased flexibility. This felt like the right call, since in the beginning it wasn't clear that we'd even be around later!

We decided we wanted to support this, but it was pretty tricky to implement. Turns out the assumption that a call has an active screen share associated with it was baked very deep into Tuple's internals.

For a while, folks have been asking for the ability to start a Tuple call without screen sharing. This makes sense! Sometimes it's nice to discuss who's going to drive before you begin pairing (and is handy for things like checking your email during a break). (more below...)

Just had a call between Rome, Italy and Auckland, New Zealand. This is two of the farthest points on Earth you could pair from and I'm very much impressed by the quality 👌 excellent experience

I’ve long found Slack, Zoom et al awful for technical screen sharing. They make my CPUs burn, my fans whine, my system crawl, and their face-optimal video encoding makes my copy and code harder to read. is a spectacularly different experience, and worth its price.

Today I paid for a Tuple solo subscription. Used it for a 1-hour session with a dev friend in another state. Remarkable. He coded on my local machine for an hour while I watched and we talked.
