if you listen to it you'll understand it's not a denial, they did the research and found the most likely explanation. TL;DR Google and Facebooks' algorithms are so deeply embedded in your social circles it can predict what you'll think about before you think it.

If that is all true, that's still just as bad. We shouldn't have to opt out of so many little things (in some cases, can't opt out) to stop being served ads to things that happened to be mentioned in passing. It's still upsetting, and I work at an ad agency
Oh i'm not disagreeing with that at all, but often times with stuff like this there isn't even an opt-out option. Otherwise multiple internet services wouldn't be free/affordable. They make their dollars on selling your info/history
