I don’t want to be mean, but honestly. How hard is it to have an opinion about a video game? The internet is full of people with opinions about video games. It can’t be that hard to have an opinion. Why steal an opinion?????

Having an original thought requires a bank of knowledge, insight, and courage to say something. Also the skill to say it well. Most people get into games writing cause it has the lowest barrier to entry and they just want to be paid to be around games.
I disagree. Only writers I've worked with/spoken to about it got into it because they loved the medium. The barrier of entry into gaming is much lower through other avenues and if they want to get paid writing is definitely the wrong way to go.

Fair enough, perhaps we worked with a different crop. Pre-youtube, it was the go-to thing. I guess modern equivalent would be the litany of Let's Players immitating Ninja, Pewd, whatever.
