Happy ! Is spring finally here? Sunny weather allowed PNSN field staff to install a new digital antenna for an upgrade to station HTW here at our home base . This site shoots from the foothills of the Cascades near Sultan all the way to the roof of the PNSN.

In this seismogram, you can see the ground motion from the eruption of 42 years ago today. Volcano monitoring has come a long way since that day, as was detailed in our program for the 40th anniversary:

#1980: M5.1 EQ, colossal landslides. Magma & hot fluids explode, surge outward like hot hurricane. Column rises, ash falls. Hummocky debris flow buries valley. Snow melts, mud flows downstream. A 9-hr eruption & everything is changed.

Happy ! PNSN field staff get boots on the ground when building new or upgrading old sites. Sometimes they get their eyes in the sky too! Check out this drone footage from a scouting trip to future site OSR (featuring PNSN field dog Lua).

Happy ! This week, PNSN field staff from , , and participated in helicopter training led by our colleagues at the Cascades Volcano Observatory. They were preparing for work at volcanoes and other remote sites this summer!

A helicopter hovers over an equipment load as a man moves out from under it.
Two men in flight suits fist bump.
A man kneels next to an equipment load attached to a helicopter hovering just above him.
A woman handles a helicopter attachment that is connected to a helicopter out of frame. Two equipment loads sit nearby.
