No one thought libraries were free. They are still better for communities than corporate bookstores.

And if you knew anything about libraries, you'd know that you have access to much more than that $495 in goods and services if you actually used yours.

I so sorry you had to pay $1.36 a day to support your local communities.

My public library (the busiest in California!) is perpetually packed with people using the resources there to get jobs or other income. Having gainfully employed neighbors is of great interest to me as a taxpaying homeowner.

Library taxes are based on property taxes. The bigger your house the more you pay. If you can't afford $500 a year then maybe you can't afford that multi-million dollar mansion? Leave libraries and the kids who use them alone!

I've already read over $500 worth of books this year thanks to my local library, and I'm proud to pay taxes so everyone can do the same! When was the last time you went to your local library?

Your taxes also pay for roads, infrastructure, assistance, salaries... society, in total. None of it is free. All contributes toward the common good you’d rather leave to corporations with vested interests.

I’d never have thought a professor would abandon wholesale the concept of “Polis” in favor of some crypto-anarchic-corporate control, but here you are. Franklin, Jefferson, etc. would be ashamed of you.
