  6. Today the government said COVID vaccine second dose appointments will be brought forward from 12 to 8 weeks. People should continue to attend appointments and don't need to contact the NHS. Those who should move their appointment forward will be told when they are able to do so.

    Our Head of Immunisation, Dr Mary Ramsay, explains that getting your vaccine could save your life or stop you becoming seriously ill. Make sure you get both doses of your when they are offered to you. Find out more about the vaccine:

    NEW: Our latest analysis indicates that the vaccination programme prevented 11,700 deaths in those aged 60+ in England up to the end of April. It also suggests that at least 33,000 hospitalisations were prevented in those aged 65+ in England.
