During her '18 senate campaign, Warren framed the fight ahead like this: "I'm optimistic. But I’m furious." Optimism and anger aren't opposites. In fact often, they often go hand-in-hand. If you're not angry, you're not paying attention. But fighting back requires optimism.

Voters need to trust the election process, regardless of who is operating the system. Mistakes were made in Iowa, and voters' confidence has been shaken. But people should not lose faith in our democracy. We must keep voting, while we demand accountability and improvement.

So excited about this paper. We did the biggest MHD simulations of giant molecular clouds ever, for the first time resolving the formation of individual stars in clouds just like the ones that form most of the stars in the Milky Way! 1/7

If you're applying to grad school / postdocs / faculty jobs, please please please use an online checklist for your letter writers. Give them access and they can check off their progress themselves. It's waaaay easier for them and will save you time and sanity, too.

I am pro-elegant data viz. But, for the love of all of us who crave more than one significant figure from your published plots, please bring back minor tick marks.

An interesting new paper by and - can you explain MOND parameters from conventional physics? On top of my to-read list!

So you thought you could ignore the effects of black holes in dwarf galaxies? Our newest paper, led by my grad student Christina Manzano-King, shows that black holes can propel powerful winds on galactic scales in these little galaxies!

paper day! We studied the properties of giant molecular clouds in the FIRE simulations, to get some idea of how their masses, sizes, and other properties evolved over cosmic time. The results were a surprise! 1/n

Nice article from about where current LCDM model predictions DO and DO NOT show tension with observed dwarf galaxies. Progress in science means emphasizing and understanding both. Also highlights

Congratulations to Dr. TK Chan, who defended his dissertation (on feedback-induced cores in dwarfs, ultra-diffuse galaxies, and FIRE sims with cosmic rays) today at , and was presented a cool bottle of "Borne of FIRE" wine by his advisor, Dusan Keres.

Attn students: Please do not hesitate to attend office hours (even if you are not in close proximity to an exam)! Your professors have scheduled the time and if you don't show up they are sitting alone in their offices being sad. You are not bothering them if you ask questions!

If you're choosing your PhD advisor, remember that the research you will do for the next 5 years is important, but even more important is finding the person who will be your mentor and champion throughout your career. You will never regret choosing a great mentor.

Hey, real talk, astro grad students and postdocs: don't let stop you from applying for one of these fellowships. Many awardees weren't sure if they were competitive but applied anyway. Search high and low for people who will write you the best reference letters.

I have always been interested in galactic archaeology, but I don't think this is what they meant. Did you know that dinosaurs lived on the other side of the Galaxy?
