"I don't think anyone wants a hand out or preferential treatment, although that's what we give ourselves every year. ...It is the obligation of the people that have created & perpetuate & benefit from a system of opression to be the ones that dismantle it. So...that's on us."

One Super Bowl team caricatures indigenous people. The other is named for Gold Rushers who helped drive them off their land. “Nostalgic racism, no matter how well intentioned, causes harm to living Native Americans,” writes , a tribal attorney.

“How does it feel to be an edible, consumed object?” In other words, how does it feel to be an energy source and foodstuff, to be consumed on the levels of body, sex, psyche, and soul? Vincent Woodard’s The Delectable Negro is the most interesting work I’ve read for my exams.

Black History Month is in February because of Lincoln’s and Frederick Douglass’s (chosen) birthday being Feb 12 & 14. “Negro History Week” was first organized around those dates, before expanding to Black History Month in the 70s...

I hope your dreams are stubborn. I hope your wishes have teeth. I hope your want is sharper than your fear of failing.

Also, worth noting that Mary Higgins Clark who was literally called "the Queen of Suspense" and has sold millions and millions of copies did not publish her first novel until she was 48. It is never too late to eventually end up Running This Shit.

I’ve had a lot of conversations about blackness in publishing today, especially centered on my role in it. As far as I know, I’m currently the only acquiring editor that works in SFF that identifies as black and that’s a lot...

The thing is, we haven’t even reached our peaks yet. And look at all we are doing on the way to who we are meant to be. Rooting for all of us. Stay the course. 🙏🏾

yes. it’s a microcosm of the larger fear that a predominantly nonwhite polity would treat whites in the same manner that whites treated nonwhites.

if democracy is a way of life and a habit of mind as well as a political system, then what kinds of habits of mind and ways of life are we seeding in the polity through our awful criminal justice system?

capitalism is so natural that it needed gatlin guns, whips, slaveboats, emminent domain laws, the state, wars, genocides to continue its existence but idiots will tell you it is "natural". the history of capitalism is one the most coercive and unnatural system to ever exist

you lot are too grown to *still* be denying yourself an analysis of capitalism, as it pertains to every individuals’ relationship to the means of production instead of individual “ownership” of material possessions, please evolve. 😭 it’s been YEARS of the same jokes, it’s time.

Learning to say “Nah, this just isn’t good enough,” will enhance your life greatly. You’re allowed to say, “This is simply not enough for me.” You’re allowed to have a vision for yourself, your life, your relationships and refuse to settle for anything less. Say “no,” often.
