nintendo acknowledged the scene when they added a tournament mode (no items, FD) to smash 4. that was their way of supporting it indirectly. if they needed the exposure sponsorship brings theyd have done it. they don't.

its not nintendos job to help them though. they're a business, not a charity. its bad business to invest with no return. its not their fault people chose to make a living off smash. the entire tournament aspect of it was created by the scene itself.

The absolute most headass thing I hear "if they give 10k to a prize pot, how will they make that back?!" Sell 26 Switches with Smash and DLC. That's a return on investment. Like, you mean to tell me that 26 people of...60-130k arent gonna be inspired to get into the game? FOH

and damn, the good press is worth 10k honestly. Like, "NINTENDO SUPPORTS SMASH WITH POTS" means that you'll have a LOT of new entrants. Nintendo can properly support events and ask a cut if they provide enough support. Smash TOs want to do less. Yall bust ass 24/7 for us.

Also, fuck outta here with your exposure LOL They do it to sell their merch, to plug their sponsors, to promote their upcoming events. Nintendo just doesn't let you do ANY of that. These games don't need exposure. They need sources of liquidity for long term growth.
