My friend who only plays Ultimate just finished watching the Smash Bros Documentary and immediately ask "Why doesnt Nintendo make a new smash with the Melee engine?'
ok ok ok. You are taking this way out of hand. My friend who is a casual player was saying this and I made the tweet. Casual players will play any new smash game. regardless of engine. So much more I can say but I'm sure you missed the point of my tweet already.

I’m wondering how far Nintendo would have to go to port the old engine and polish it up. Is it worth that effort when they can just port Melee? New characters in that engine would be neat. Even still, Melee’s intense competitive side isn’t exactly the vision of the creator.

What can I say? This entire discussion and discussions like it always circle back to why Smash was made in the first place, along with elements such as polish and fair design. Melee does not have polish or fair design, and Sakurai doesn’t want to revisit it. Can’t blame him.

People playing game competitively bad. Mass consumption good. Maximized corporate profit good.

I’m not saying that. I’m saying overemphasizing a niche demographic that isn’t even the majority of your target audience is NOT a smart move, both in business and game design. Sakurai wants to create an accessible game as part of the game’s inspiration and design, not greed.
