my two cents on Big House 9's decision to use HDMI for friendlies setups: HDMI is 100% good and viable, but only if Achilles' lagfix gecko code is applied (so that Melee isn't displayed slower than on CRT). to my knowledge, no tournament that has run on HDMI has done this yet.
Have you tried the new eon gaming gamecube hdmi converter? They made second one and it seems much better than any option out there atm.

Eon is 1) unavoidably half a frame slower than CRT, and 2) no faster than a wii2hdmi for $125 more (but it works with gamecubes)
