Disclaimer: I did not intend to write another "the peer review system is broken" thread. And yes, I am guilty myself of bug-finding on papers. I have just become (way) less proud of my community's conferences low acceptance rate 3/3

Have we as a community become so critical that we fight passionately to reject? Have we been trained only to find bugs (on papers) and fail to acknowledge the merits? Does this actually help advance our field? 2/3

I received notifications yesterday rejecting two of my submissions. Part of the academic game, no doubt. But seemingly the submissions had no flaws. We simply did not jump high enough according to the bar set by reviewers. PC members rate 'reject' without stating limitations! 1/3

Great talk by on security. Your phone can get hacked by simply plugging it to a public charging station (e.g. mall or airport)! Scary but (scientifically proven) true. Must trick user to install an app though e.g. through social engineering

Key take-aways from Jan van Zoest, chief architect at Philips. Good summary to use in a software architecture intro slideset. See Conway 's law?

Bottom line: When deciding on cloud services don't just look at the cost models. Take runtime measurements esp. for latency and utilization.

Rehearsal for the project review meeting in progress. Great progress so far from companies and universities in visualizing info. Next step is research prototypes and commercial tools.
