“I consider Mr to be a political prisoner,” said Ms Ævarsdóttir. “His conviction and sentencing in 2014 were unlawful – this is not my evaluation, but the binding judgment of the European Court of Human Rights. Every act that depends on that conviction is also unlawful.”

In a unanimous vote, the Assembly has called on the 's ministerial body to request that Russia "immediately withdraw from the Council of Europe" and if it does not comply, to determine the immediate possible date it would cease to be a member. More details coming...

In a resolution, PACE has called on the International Olympic Committee to maintain its position and ban all Russian and Belarusian athletes from taking part in the #Paris2024 Olympics and Paralympics, and other major sporting events, "as long as the war of aggression continues".
