Twitter is ruining political discourse, but thankfully the media has spent the last few days on stories like *checks notes* smearing a dead guy, attacking a Twitter account with 300 followers, harassing a political leader at his home, and debating whether a toy train is abuse

  3. Twitter hasn't ruined political discourse. The mainstream media has that one covered: vilifying Muslims, refugees, immigrants, trans people; smearing critics as ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE, TRAITORS and terrorist supporters; hounding private citizens; making politics a soap opera.

  4. I think the "Twitter has got nasty remember, when it was kitten pics and X-Factor!" schtick misses the point. Politics has polarised: Scotland, Brexit, Labour's internal wars, the rise of the UK and US left, the surging hard right. Twitter just reflects those divisions.

Child poverty rates have surged by 100k in last year alone (many with parents in work). 1 in 6 disabled people wear a coat inside in winter ‘cos they can’t afford heating. Universal Credit areas see av. 52% increase in food bank use. An absolute embarrassment to claim otherwise.

The IHRA debate has been a toxic mess - but Palestinian voices have been missing from it. So I interviewed British-Palestinian lawyer Salma Karmi-Ayyoub to ask: what are the objections all about? Give it a watch >>

My great-uncle Michael Foot was a lifelong anti-Stalinist. Friend of Orwell, Koestler and Silone. Ludicrous to claim he was a Soviet spy. Sued successfully for libel around this when he was alive. No evidence. Shameful and cowardly.

Me on : Do Palestinian citizens of Israel have a right to self-determination under Nation State law too or only Jewish citizens? Netanyahu ally Dore Gold: Nope. Canadian immigrants in America don't and nor do Mexican immigrants. Me: WTF?

The other problem I have with all these journalists & broadcasters piously claiming that interviewing Bannon is not only justified but allows them to hold him to account is: when was the last time you saw a tough intv with him? Actual Qs on his racism? With Bannon on the ropes?

This weekend, we're holding a big old Unseat Iain Duncan Smith festival, where we'll campaign to get rid of the man who waged war on disabled people and the low-paid, but also have talks and music. Don't miss it! >>

  16. Tory MP Nadine Dorries, with commendable honesty: "And that's our biggest dream, as the Conservative Party, is that the Labour 'moderates' breakaway and form their own party because when they do that, it completely splits the vote on the left."

If the Blairites were ever to resume control of Labour - and I doubt very much they ever will - then the disciplinary measures and deselections that would follow would far, far exceed anything the left has ever contemplated

Boris Johnson is the man who got sacked twice for lying, called black people piccaninnies with watermelon smiles, and turned Britain into an international laughing stock. He’d be a horrendous Prime Minister

Theresa May's administration backs Hungary's far right anti-Semitic autocracy and deports black British citizens. Britain is governed by a racist government and we should be clear about that.
