Very possibly. My core theory of UK social implosion is that the colonies skimmed off the real genetic cream (i.e. the adventurers).

the problem in this case is rather that the presence of the trait 'adventurousness' is derived from the 'adventurous' nature of colonisation, ignoring the more mundane factors that moved people towards the colonies (e.g. persecution, starvation and deportation)
