Arguing over whether fascism is left or right misses the point of understanding what it was/is. You make compelling points about historical fascisms being leftwing. But the spatial metaphor of left/right isn't a hill to die on.

Insisting that socialists are fascists is an argument meant to exploit culturally negative connotations around the term fascism. It's much easier to just argue against socialism, and leave the term fascist to those who self-identify as such (american neo-nazi, strasserists, etc).

If fascists stopped pretending to be rightists I'd leave them alone. Every time a third positionist comes out as such an angel of truth sings in heaven.

Surely they aren't the only 'rightists' you'd push out of the club. Christian conservatism, especially the apocalyptic evangelical american variety, has almost nothing in common with the libertarian right.

After reading Gary North I'm reluctant to just nod along to that.

Not familiar with him, but I'm sure there are people who try to make it work.

Ah yes, stoning the gays, very typical libertarian praxis!

Some stoning for abominations and idolatry and stuff, but you're taking it out of context.
