There are a billion people who, if you write in English, simply won't understand what you say. But what most don't realize is that there are inferential gaps between people within languages that are almost as insurmountable.

When you write, you should never try to write for an audience of everyone. You're writing for the subset of people who are close enough to you in thought-space that you can effectively move them.
