Not convinced. Fascism is a lot more sensible than communism, so it tends to get further.

Soviet Union before the NEP, and China during Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution were the big ones.

I think it's more that nationalism has a pragmatic aspect, which contradicts strong (Utopian) collectivist imperatives in detail.
