... We're having this exchange right here, after all. Twitter can do some cultural scare-crow stuff by zapping annoying accounts, but its effective power to determine the tone and content of 'the conversation' is roughly zero.

this is a good point - anyone with an audience large enough to be an easily identifiable spreader of counter-cathedral narrative gets deplatformed, but a zillion smaller accounts can do the same thing without really being noticed. so far, anyway.
