@Outsideness Mr. Land, A question that was bothering me for a while. You seemed to put emphasis on technology and capital as the most influential forces, but these days you put emphasis mainly on politics and social issues. Why?

Are decentralization and competition matters of "technology and capital" or "politics and social issues"?

China and the US are very different socially and politically, but they both leading in developing AI tech - which potentially can be the strongest influence of the human condition. Do the social/political issues really matter? (hope it makes sense)

Social issues impact on technological development. The liberalism of the West, focusing on putting ethical controls on AI, is leading to growing Chinese domination of that market where they're relatively unconcerned. The two are intrinsically intertwined.

Adoption of technologies like facial recognition for surveillance is likewise being pioneered in China. This is because of their political structure and how social issues are handled in a culture molded by that authoritarianism. China is rapidly moving ahead.

Why does it matter who gets there first? The result for most of humanity is going to be the same Also, never heard of any regulation of ai in the us

One of the primary topics of research in the area is ethical regulation etc. Yes, but we're also on a vector towards neo-speciation along not only socioeconomic and technical lines but national.

(And of course the fracturing of those national borders and the decay of the liberal nation-state. Nick's work on Patchwork here is worth a read, though I'm more partial to the u/acc conception of it than the Moldbuggian-Landian.)

I really digg the acc stuff, but the dark enlightenment looks to me like fighting yesterday's war. I just cant see that importance.

If the Cathedral didn't have the potential to massively decelerate the social process, NRx wouldn't have any acc. relevance.

Cochran claims significant iq changes takes > 100 years. Are these timelines even relevant with this age tech progress speed? We might have agi in 50 years. And cathedral doesnt control china
