im slogging through this essay but i always thought the substrate for antisemitism was Christs death. judas, 30 pieces,Christs blood, taking the blood of the babies, poisoning the wells (water, life force, etc), then bankers taking all the money, then commies taking everything

Absolutely not, Marx identifies it perfectly as purely identity difference itself, and a wealth accumulative culture. Where there's a minority there's usually a hatred, and where that minority is wealthy there's extreme grievance.

yea, sure, but as the essay points out, diverting resources from the front, during a total war that aint going very well for you, to exterminate a minority, is a weird priority that suggests something much deeper than that, no?

The only thing it suggests is that tribalist ideology requires an ethnic other to function, and that when put under stress will scapegoat that other to relieve its fears.

Anti-semitism is no different than any other ethnic conflict: Black v white, Serb v Croat, etc. It's about resource competition. Jews think anti-Semitism is uniquely bad among bigotries but everyone thinks that about bigotries against their own group. It's not objective

i disagree. ive known lots of racists, antisemites, neonazis, couple klansmen. racists are just bigots, theyre usually manageable. all of the antisemites ive known are bat-shit insane. they think the jew controls everything and is doing everything but somehow they will beat him.

That's where the wealth part comes in. No other ethnic minority has such a huge percentage of billionaires. Tribalists are very generalising thinkers, very fearful, they take the objective fact of higher Jewish wealth and apply conspiratorialism to catastrophize it.

this is only a partial explanation though, jews are identified with money and power (or rather, as postone points out, with the value abstraction), but this happens even when they are impoverished and/or already utterly dispossessed by the antisemites

High in-group preference leads to the perception that private Jewish wealth is transcendentally collectivized, within the tribe. (Entirely confident that Sinophobes have the same assumption.)

Sinophobia tends to rely more on “muh dogs” arguments though which is less present in AS. Thing about people who dislike Jews compared to most prejudices is the absence of crude accusation-of-taboo attacks. Maybe calling someone an ursurer once had the same impact but not now

I'm talking more about Sinophobia where it really matters (against an extreme market dominant minority) e.g. in Indonesia, and throughout SE Asia. ...

... Sinophobic ethnopolitics was an under-appreciated theme during the Vietnam war, for instance.
