Powerful critical thinking here, Amy, can't think of any reason other than discrimination that math Ph.D's are so concentrated among children of Ph.Ds Philip Cohen notes Asian/Pacific Islanders 6.8 times as likely as blacks (2.6 X as likely as whites) to have a parent with a PhDhttps://twitter.com/amy_harmon/status/1098315105886982146 …

I try to assume good faith. I used to think there was some hope but I've seen her directly lie so now I'm leaning towards the the latter in general. She follows me on here so it's not like she isn't exposed to data.

In her case, it’s obviously dim. That’s always a good quality in a press secretary or propagandist. They can’t betray secrets they don’t know. The liars are the many scientists who tell Amy what she wants to hear, in exchange for being (temporarily) allowed to keep working.

She has the vague air of a Stasi officer, she clearly likes bullying.

Discrimination could be a piece of a complex web of causation. Cultural differences are almost certainly involved, but biological differences could also be a player. Cultural differences alone could lead to stereotypes and bias, feedback effects are possible.

Smart people would actually recognize the complexity of the problem and not pretend there is a single cause. Univariate analysis is garbage in any complex system, and sociology is likely the most complex. The layers of causation and complexity are mind boggling.
