the earth goes thru glacial periods, the earth is gonna continue to warm and sea levels continue to rise until we hit the inflection point and move into the next ice age

That's the big picture, for sure, but you're not suggesting that the realistically predicted climatic effect of CO2 liberation is zero (are you)?

it seems unreasonable that it should be zero, doesn't it? The greenhouse analogy is so striking! yet it's also unreasonable that after 30 yrs the models still have no predictive power...

No reason to trust the models on quantity of temperature change, but I do trust the likely mechanism of CO2 blocking some wavelengths of radiation coming from the Earth.

I don't mean to overemphasize this one factoid, but circa 1970 the idea was that CO2 would start a cycle of increasing cloudcover, block *incoming* radiation and freeze the earth. There are now "obvious" reasons that doesn't happen: but these mechanisms are never immaculate

But the incoming radiation has a lot more visible wavelengths, and as far as I know CO2 absorbs much more in the IR.

It's the fact that Mars probably can't be terraformed that makes it such a precious stepping-stone into deep space. (You can't take the womb with you forever.)
