well, the choice in Brazil wasn't really good: corrupt communist or proto-fash militaristic idiot. about a third of the country chose the latter. the insanity of the whole things is really tragicomical.

Indeed, but Bolsonaro has been giving hints that he's moving towards liberalism, and is choosing good ministers to help him, while the usual brazilian politics does not involve competence, but choosing from allied parties.

there's a reason it usually involves allied parties and lots of bribery: support in Congress in essential for legal changes. the alternative to that is either not changing anything or pushing the changes through authoritarian means.
